Hats off to you Onion, hats off.
So we were watching the latest episode of Satyamev Jayate (http://www.satyamevjayate.in/issue05/)
The simple act of falling in love opens up a world of emotions and reactions which sometimes culminate in crime – the death of the couple. Even if they escape death, lovers who go against religious and community barriers still have to face harassment and censure from society and, due to this pressure, rejection from their families. But the law is clear, that consenting adults are free to marry. And there is an organization which protects couples, helps them fight harassment and gives them shelter so they can marry freely.
There was a gentleman who was going on about how the idea that you need to live according to your ”tradition” was clashing with the law of the land. I vocally agreed with him and the wifey turns to me and says,
”you would be totally happy with the fact that your daughter might one day want to be with some dude who insists that she become a muslim or christian or sikh or bald if she wants to continue with the relationship”
It took me a few seconds but my answer was
”if my daughter says yes to any such demand, I would know in that instance that I have failed as a father”.
This conversation is part of the on going sedated argument with my wife on religion. Sedated, because it has not come to loud words yet :)
I think it is a complete waste of time for me or Rhea (my daughter) to focus on any aspect of religion which really pisses my wife. At the moment Rhea is listening to her mom mostly because I know she is afraid of her. But one day, I know it will happen. Rhea is just going to say, ”screw this”.
Am waiting for that day. She will have questions and I will be ready!
The group demanding an end to Muslim Friday prayers at a Toronto school is militantly anti-Sikh and anti-Muslim.
Canadian Hindu Advocacy’s director Ron Banerjee has said: “In its entire history, Islam, the Islamic civilization has invented and contributed less to human advancement than a pack of donkeys.”
He wants to “fight the Islamization of our society” and, lately, of the Toronto District School Board (TDSB). He’s demanding that Valley Park Middle School in Flemingdon Park stop giving space to Muslim students in the cafeteria after lunch on Fridays.
He does not live in the area but claims to have “received many complaints from terrified Hindu students and parents (who) felt that the TDSB was so thoroughly infected with Islamist sympathies that they would suffer consequences for speaking up.”
He does not say how many parents complained. Nor does he identify them. When I asked him that by email, and also inquired how many members his organization has and who funds it, he did not respond.
“Frankly, I don’t believe what he says,” principal Nick Stefanoff says. “I’ve not had a single complaint from any non-Muslim parents. We have dozens of Hindu students and we have a great relationship with them and their parents. When the Indian cricket team played Sri Lanka in the World Cup final (in April in Mumbai), Hindu and Muslim kids came to the school at 4 a.m. to watch it together. They had a great time.”
So, as you can gather, some students who on Fridays, instead of going to a local mosque, use the school canteen to pray. This is being done so that they avoid missing out on classes.
I am afraid that’s a big effing no!
If a student (or his/her parents) think that praying is more important than attending the classes, then please by all means go ahead and pray. But you cannot use a school for religious purposes. Period.
Now, regarding this person, Ron Banerjee who bought this whole issue to light. Haroon Siddiqui is bang on target when describing Banerjee and his activities. A racist to the core and one who proudly wears it on his sleeve. This guy is one of those low life parasites who has probably too much time on his hands and not enough distractions. Sounds like a typical mind set of a delusional right wing politics of India.
Holy cow!!!
I have no idea where to go with this….
Creation, which opened the Toronto International Film Festival last week, might be winning favourable early reviews, but its still-controversial protagonist — naturalist Charles Darwin — has prevented the film from snagging U.S. distribution, according to one of its producers.
The Jon Amiel biographical drama stars real-life couple Paul Bettany and Jennifer Connelly as the evolution theorist and his devout wife, during the period when Darwin struggled with his faith, the loss of a beloved daughter and with the decision to publish his seminal On The Origin of Species.
Though Creation has scored deals to screen in movie theatres around the globe, U.S. distributors have been reluctant.
I guess progressives and liberals are really not controlling Hollywood? So, a graphically violent movie like The Passion Of The Christ based on a fairy tale is ok with the distributors but a biopic on one of the greatest scientist in the history of the world, is a big NO.
Absolutely pathetic.
And they ask why am I against religion? This is the reason why :
This is on one of India’s leading english newspapers and instead of educating the public, the editors are money hungry enough to plaster this nonsensical article on the front page. Or maybe the editors believe in this crap. I don’t know why this kind of thing really, really bugs me.
I have been getting into scraps with my wife about “religiosity” of Rhea, our daughter. So far, I have been passive about religious ideas that Rhea has been receiving from my family and friends in general. But I think it’s time (she is almost 6 now) I sit Rhea down and explain to her to use her mind and not bow down to indoctrination and superstition so prevalent in Hindu society.

NEW DELHI: For those suffering from aviophobia, the fear of flying, divine help will be at hand soon with a grand temple with south Indian architecture coming up just outside the airport here.
“We started constructing this temple in August last year. It will be open for public in two-three months,” said Arun Arora, spokesperson for Delhi’s airport development firm, which has been promoted by GMR, a Hyderabad-based infrastructure company.
“But the temple is not being built inside the airport. It is a part of the commercial area in the airport’s vicinity. It will be accessible to anyone,” Arora said.
Well, it’s true. Whenever I fly, I look for the nearest deity and bow my head and hope I get to where I want safely and not trust the experts like : the pilot, the engineer, the stewards, the air traffic controller, the ground staff etc.
This mindless superstition is so pathetic that it boggles my mind.
I remember the time when outright stupidity broke out in 1995/1996 when statues of the lord Ganesha started “drinking milk” around India and the world. I remember how excited all my batch mates were, in the MBA college I was attending (you heard right, MBA graduates became sniveling pathetic morons). Of course, the hysteria died down a bit once it was discovered that this “miracle” was the result of surface tension and capillary action but more so because the statues were clogged with the 1000s of liters of milk. But that did not dissuade the believers who still think stone statues drink milk.
And my friends call me stupid for not believing.
I can’t stand atheists — but it’s not because they don’t believe in God. It’s because they’re crashing bores.
Read Dawkins, or Hitchens, or the works of fellow atheists Sam Harris (“The End of Faith”) and Daniel Dennett (“Breaking the Spell”), or visit an atheist website or blog (there are zillions of them, bearing such titles as “God Is for Suckers,” “God Is Imaginary” and “God Is Pretend”), and your eyes will glaze over as you peruse — again and again — the obsessively tiny range of topics around which atheists circle like water in a drain.
Then there is the smack down of the afore mentioned bone headed dumbness.
Charlotte Allen is very, very angry with us atheists — that’s the only conclusion that can be drawn from her furious broadside in The Times on May 17. She can’t stand us; we’re unpopular; we’re a problem. What, exactly, is the greatest crime of modern atheists?
We’re boring.
I can’t actually argue with that. It’s true. We’re all just ordinary people — your neighbors, your friends, your relatives. I know atheists who are accountants, real estate agents, schoolteachers, lawyers, soldiers, journalists, even ministers (but don’t tell their congregations!). Our leading lights are college professors, scientists, philosophers, theologians and other such pedantic, scholarly riffraff. For entertainment, they read books, and if they want to do something ambitious and dramatic, they write books. I’m one of them, so trust me, I know — we don’t exactly live the James Bond lifestyle. Calling us boring is a fair cop.

The more often Americans go to church, the more likely they are to support the torture of suspected terrorists, according to a new survey.More than half of people who attend services at least once a week — 54 percent — said the use of torture against suspected terrorists is “often” or “sometimes” justified. Only 42 percent of people who “seldom or never” go to services agreed, according to the analysis released Wednesday by the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life.
White evangelical Protestants were the religious group most likely to say torture is often or sometimes justified — more than six in 10 supported it. People unaffiliated with any religious organization were least likely to back it. Only four in 10 of them did.
Or should I say, I am not one bit surprised about this.

India’s election authority has censured the great-grandson of India’s first prime minister for making hate speeches against minority Muslims during political rallies ahead of the country’s national elections.
The Election Commission’s order came late Sunday after footage emerged of 29-year-old Varun Gandhi, who is seeking a seat in Parliament for the first time on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), comparing a rival Muslim politician to Osama bin Laden and threatening to cut the throats of Muslims during political rallies.
I have to ask the obvious question, who the fuck sponsors these kind of people to politics? These self anointed saviours of Hinduism are the scum that feeds at the bottom of a barrel. The sad fact is that uneducated masses of India will follow whosoever says “Jai Sri Ram” the loudest. It is pathetic how India portrays itself to be this developing super power and yet is run by people advocating mass murder in the name of religion. Case in point, we have a murderer running the state of Gujrat (the state in which, ironically, the peace loving Mahatma Gandhi was born).
And once caught on tape, would the main Hindu body, back track to cover the faux pax? No, no, that would be too “cowardly”. Instead they did a brave thing by saying :
The state unit president of the All India Hindu Mahasabha, Mahant Narayan Giri, told newspersons that Varun Gandhi has said nothing wrong in his speech and was being targeted for speaking for the cause of “Hindutva”.
Aah, yes, the old defend, the poor weak Hindus because they are third class citizens of India where they constitute 80% of the population. And I just lost my lunch when I read this by Varun Gandhi :
“It’s a very sad day in Indian politics when anyone who speaks for Hindus is branded communal.”
Communal. God fucking damn!! You represent a party that is nothing BUT communal. Each and every riot in the last 20 years can be traced back to BJP and their subsidiary parties.
Shame on you all who vote for these people.
All homosexuals should face stoning to death, a Muslim preacher of hate declared yesterday.
Anjem Choudary, the firebrand cleric who wants to see Britain ruled by Sharia law, said such a regime was the only way to fix the country’s ills.
Under it, adulterers and homosexuals would be killed by stoning. Asked if that would include anybody – even a Cabinet minister such as Business Secretary Lord Mandelson – Choudary responded with an astonishing diatribe.
He said: ‘If a man likes another man, it can happen, but if you go on to fulfil your desire, if it is proved, then there is a punishment to follow. You don’t stone to death unless there are four eyewitnesses. It is a very stringent procedure.
‘There are some people who are attracted to donkeys but that does not mean it is right.’
Well, truth be told, I was going to say the things like everyone else would say…..’typical statement from your religion of peace’…….’the authour of this quote should be arrested’……’we need to see more moderate-religious people admonishing these kind of statements’…..and so on when a thought occurred to me.
As much as I have a right to call this person and his cohorts, FUCKING BIGOTS, this person has a right to say what he wants. The line, for this guy and his followers, can easliy be crossed. They have done it before as shown by the bomb attacks in London in July ’07. But as long as he maintains his right of freedom of speech, I maintain the fact that behind closed doors, these guys are as gay as the rainbow!!! Let these guys bray and bark as much as they want, because at the end of the day, they know they are wrong and there is no way they are going to convert anyone with their ”flowery language”.
And it never ceases to amaze me – the obsession of the religious right`s obsession of sex with animals!!!
That’s got to be the dumbest meeting ever!!
Two sects conferring and telling themselves how great their sect’s teaching is, while people around the world are killing their neighbours because they happen to be from the opposing sect.
Here are two quotes from religions of peace :
Koran Sura 8:12 I will instill terror into the hearts of the unbelievers: smite ye above their necks and smite all their finger-tips off them.
Bible: Matthew 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.
And they say atheists have no morals!!!

What is a car puja? A car puja is a Hindu ceremony blessing a car so as to keep it from bad influnences and to bless it in God’s name.
Why is this done? Basically, Hindus bless all implements or items to be used which are used for daily life. This is true of things like Homes, Cars, Motorized vehicles of all types, and home implements like appliances (mixers, grinders, stoves, tvs, stereos, etc.).
When is this done? It is done at the inception of the implement- like when one buys a new car, home, etc. People try to do the puja before using the implement, but this is not always done now a days.
I know you will say that this is just an innocent act or say it’s an act of faith and does no harm so why am I against such practices?
Well, to tell you the truth, I find this very view repugnant. Bless the car? God damn, why do you buy an auto insurance policy if you are blessing the car to keep away the bad influences? In other words, you don’t believe in this act yourself!!?!!
Absolute nonsense.
How far removed is an innocent act like Car Puja from absolute horror like this?
Mumbai, India : In a shocking case, a man allegedly raped his daughter repeatedly over a span of nine years at the behest of an occultist, who said the act would bring prosperity to the family.
The 21-year-old victim, who had been silent about the incident, mustered courage to approach the police after her businessman-father attempted to rape her 15-year-old younger sister.
Besides the father, the Mira Road police in neighbouring Thane district arrested the victim’s mother for abetting the crime and also the occultist, Hasmukh Rathod.
The 60-year-old businessman K Chavan has been sent to police custody till March 21. The court has also sent Chavan’s wife and a ‘tantrik’ to police custody till March 21st.
According to police, the husband and wife were under the influence of the occultist, who told them in July 2000 that the family would prosper if the father were to have a sexual relationship with his elder daughter, who was then 12.
Continuing from yesterday’s post about Evolution, here is a prime example of Conservative moral depravity :
Canada’s science minister, the man at the centre of the controversy over federal funding cuts to researchers, won’t say if he believes in evolution.
“I’m not going to answer that question. I am a Christian, and I don’t think anybody asking a question about my religion is appropriate,” Gary Goodyear, the federal Minister of State for Science and Technology, said in an interview with The Globe and Mail.
The question was do you believe in Evolution. Who the fuck asked about your religion? You are the SCIENCE minister. If you have troubling saying right off the bat about your belief (or in this case non-belief) in Evolution then you have every reason to go back to your Chiropractor job.
I love this doctor’s response to the crap that Goodyear spewed :
Evolution is a scientific fact, Dr. Alters said, and the foundation of modern biology, genetics and paleontology. It is taught at universities and accepted by many of the world’s major religions, he said.
“It is the same as asking the gentleman, ‘Do you believe the world is flat?’ and he doesn’t answer on religious grounds,” said Dr. Alters. “Or gravity, or plate tectonics, or that the Earth goes around the sun.”
Lol!!! That’s a good smack down.
Anyway, I googled Goodyear this morning and saw that the minister now all of a sudden does not believe that asking his views on Evolution is a violation of his religious beliefs :
OTTAWA — Canada’s science minister moved to cut short a brewing controversy Tuesday over his views on evolution.
Gary Goodyear raised eyebrows when he refused to tell a national newspaper if he believed in the science of evolution.
But the minister of state for science and technology clarified Tuesday that he does indeed believe in evolution.
“We’re evolving all the time,” Goodyear said in an interview.
“Of course I believe in evolution.”
I wonder how many Hail Marys he had to say after such blasphemous talk!!! Now that your “faith” in science has been restored, can we not cut the research budget? Supporting science and research is what is going to help Canada be a stronger country not praying for a miracle.
I find it hard to believe that in a progressive and educated country like Canada, this would happen (Update: finally, some positive results, at the last count 55% believed in evolution):
4,367 so far have said “no”. It really irritates and bugs me to no end that people in this day and age would say that evolution did not happen. I mean, for gods sake, what is it going to take for these buffoons to understand that the Theory Of Evolution rests on unshakable scientific facts.
I don’t profess to know everything about the Theory Of Evolution but I am implicit and explicitly trust scientists who do understand the theory very well. And before you say “ah ha, this prick is trusting some fucking expert”. Well, yes, I do trust someone who is an authority on the Evolution theory, who knows what the details of the theory are just as I would trust an aircraft engineer who tells me that the theory of flight is based on scientific and well tested facts to enable me to climb into an aircraft without uttering a prayer.
At the same time, when someone says they do not believe in the Theory Of Evolution because it “does not sound true”, I call that kind of a statement absolutely full of crap. Just because you think it “does not sound true” does not make it bogus. E=MC2 never sounded true to anyone when Einstein came up with it, but it has since been tested and utilised very well as the nuclear strikes in Nagasaki and Hiroshima have demonstrated.
I found this very interesting tit-bit on the net and may explain why the question of the validity of evolution never was raised in India.
That’s not to say that the Indian society is not religious. I would say that religion in India is at the same level as it is in the US. However, science and religion have had a comfortable co-existence with some minor flare ups every now and then.
And here is a complete and utter bullshit version of revisionism by the fucking elite of United States Of Amerika.
UPDATED:
Woohoo!! Check this out. Guess I am wrong about Canadians (yes, yes, I know that this is an unscientific poll, but what the hell. Let me enjoy the moment)

LAHORE, PAKISTAN — At least a dozen men attacked Sri Lanka’s cricket team with rifles, grenades and rocket launchers Tuesday ahead of a match in Pakistan, wounding seven players, an umpire and an assistant coach from Britain in a brazen assault on South Asia’s most beloved sport. Six policemen and a civilian were killed.
The players’ and the coach’s injuries were not life-threatening, officials said. The umpire was in critical condition.
In a coordinated attack, the assailants ambushed the convoy carrying the squad and match officials at a traffic circle 100 yards (meters) from the main sports stadium in the eastern city of Lahore, triggering a 15-minute gunbattle with police guarding the vehicles.
None of the attackers was killed or captured at the scene, city police chief Haji Habibur Rehman said. Authorities did not speculate on the identities of the attackers or their motives.
Oh great. So even the most revered sport in South Asia is not left alone by the fucking terrorists. What crap, man. When Australia and India canceled their tours due to security concerns, I was of the opinion that these countries are over-reacting. I mean, who in their right mind would attack a sport that Pakistan, itself, excels in and tarnish the reputation of the country?
But I guess the terrorists don’t really care as long as they get their “holy land”.
And can the politicians in Pakistan get a little more back bone and take care of this issue? It was always with a wink and a nod that the politicians catered to the powerful islamic forces in the country. And now that the perception of the country is slowly turning to a “failed” state, can they move to curb these terror laden organisation?
<Link To Wikipedia Entry For Orson Scott Card>
Being a fan of science fiction, how can one ignore Orson Scott Card. He has written two Hugo winning books, one of which is amongst my personal favourites, Ender’s Game. Here is a brief synopsis to whet your appetite
It is set in Earth’s future where mankind has barely survived two conflicts with the Formics (an insectoid alien race also known as the “Buggers”) and the International Fleet is preparing for war. In order to find and train the eventual commander for the anticipated third invasion, the world’s most talented children, including the extraordinary Ender Wiggin, are taken into a training center known as the Battle School at a very young age and trained in the arts of war through increasingly difficult games.
The book is very very good. It takes you through the morality issues, the “human” issues and some political issues. The setting created by Card is truly awesome. I know most of the focus is on the BattleSchool described in the book, I loved the virtual game that Ender plays and how he forces the computer to continue beyond it’s limits and how, eventually, it is revealed that the game is tied intrinsically with Ender’s life. And the ending…..wow!!! It was a complete knockout punch by Card. Never had he prepared the reader on what was going to happen.
I read the sequel too, Speaker For The Dead in which Ender has come to terms (or is in the process of coming to terms) with his role in the massacre of an intelligent race in the previous book and now is actually a protector of life.
But the sequel did disturb me a little bit. In the first book the focus was on the action, politics and moral issues. The sequel was all those but there was a heavy dose of spirituality in the book. Spirituality is fine with me but I could not help feel that Card had overdone it. It seemed he was PREACHING even though he never put it in so many words.
And when I read the third book in the series Xenocide, I was convinced that there was something going on with the author (remember this was all before easy access to Internet so I could not look it up).
Now, of course, it is common knowledge that Card is a conservative. He abhors gays, he loves Bush’s War On Terror and he does not believe in global warming.
When I found this about Card, I have begun to detest his novels. Not Ender’s Game. That one is still pretty good. But the rest of the novels, have lost their meaning.
Here is an author who wrote and explained beautifully what it means to be a human; What it means to preserve life; What it means try and kill another race just because it is different, and then in real life he is all for killing “them because they hate us”.
This hypocrisy is really difficult for me to swallow.
Update : The reason for this post is this article on Card.

Prominent liberal groups and gay rights proponents criticized President-elect Barack Obama Wednesday for choosing evangelical pastor Rick Warren to deliver the invocation at the presidential inauguration next month.
Prominent liberal groups and gay rights proponents criticized President-elect Barack Obama Wednesday for choosing evangelical pastor Rick Warren to deliver the invocation at the presidential inauguration next month.
Oh Obama, Obama, Obama. Why did you have to take such a bullshit step? I know you want to toe the centrist line but come on, Warren. Here is what he said about people of different faiths :
……….I have yet to let Jesus enter my life, but I admire Warren. We once appeared on a panel together along with Harvard’s Peter Gomes at the Aspen Ideas Festival. When it came time for questions, a woman stood up, proclaimed her Judaism, and asked Warren if she was going to burn in hell. He paused before responding — and then answered her question the only way it could be answered. Yes, he said to audible gasps. My reaction was that either you believe that Jesus is the savior or you do not, and I found myself impressed that Warren remained true to his convictions, knowing full well that the audience would not like what he said
Yup. So all you non-Christians, see ya in hell. And he does not believe in evolution. Which in my books is the worst sin ever!!
President elect Obama, are you beginning to slide from the “moral” high that you claim you have?
I guess at times I am enthralled by the fact that India is truly a secular and a minorities championing country. The Prime Minister is from a minority religion, a woman is the president and an Italian born Indian citizen runs (allegedly) the party in power. I mean, where else can you find such welcoming people?
But then there is bullshit like this :
Taslima Nasreen forced to leave India again
So here is an authour who has done no wrong to anyone except write poetry and about the women in Islam. For that she :
has again been “forced” to leave India after her brief stay here, prompting the controversial writer to question the country’s alleged secular credentials.
The writer, who returned to India on August 8, said she had to leave on October 15 following the government’s dictum.
“Yes, I was forced to leave India once again… The government gave me resident permit for 6 months with a secret condition that I must leave the country in a few days,” she told PTI in an e-mail interview.
“Gave a 6 month visa with the condition that she leave immediately”???? WHAT?? So the all powerful, all secular government of India bowed and cowered to a segment of the population that has better things to revile in the country like poverty, corruption etc. but instead focuses it’s energy on an authour!!?!!
I know it’s all politics but there comes a time when a government needs to stand up for a principle. This author had to flee her birth country because of the fatwa placed on her. This was the perfect opportunity for the government of India and the state government (which is, ironically, a communist party i.e. an anti religion party) to demonstrate their secular credentials.
And why would anyone want to object violently to what a person has written? This is what really irks me about Indians. They take little silly issues like a book and make a huge deal out of it. Why?

A mosque asking that Canadian workplaces respect a strict Muslim dress code is at the same time disseminating slurs against Jews and Western societies, and warning members against social integration.
Why? Why should a work place respect a dress code that has been deemed dangerous? Sometimes I just don’t get religion. We are living in a modern society with a modern law that clearly stipulates the health of the employee to be of paramount value. And if the way the employee behaves or chooses to dress which is contrary to what is expected of the employee, then please find other work.
In September, a Canadian Human Rights Tribunal heard two weeks of testimony from eight mosque members alleging “Islamophobia” at the company’s west Toronto plant. Three final days of testimony are scheduled for next week.
The eight women, who lost their jobs at UPS, say Islam dictates that they wear a full-length skirt for modesty. The courier company insists that any skirt be knee-length for safety, as workers climb ladders up to 6 metres high.
Under their skirt, the women wear full-length trousers but say they do not want the lower part showing in case the shape of the calf can be discerned.
The complaint originally centred on the company’s use of temporary workers and uneven enforcement of its safety rules.
But the key question remains: Is UPS insisting on shorter hems for safety or is it violating religious rights by denying the women permanent jobs unless they conform?
I ASSUME that the dress code was told to the women on the day they were hired. If the women accepted it at that point then I am sorry, they need to be shown the door.
If the company told the women after a few weeks/months/years of employment that part of their job is to dress in a certain way, then the company is at fault. It’s as clear as that.
If the company is enforcing it’s safety rules in a discriminatory way then, they should definitely be investigated. But I kind of find it hard to believe that UPS, a global brand name company, would risk a PR problem by picking on women because of their religion.
The article continues with this :
The Khalid Bin Al-Walid Mosque near Kipling Ave. and Rexdale Blvd. serves as the religious authority for eight Somali women complaining to the Canadian Human Rights Commission that UPS Canada Ltd. violated their religious rights at a sorting plant. The mosque, founded in 1990 and serving upwards of 10,000 people, preaches strict adherence to sharia, or Islamic law, and no compromise with the West.
Teachings on the mosque’s website, khalidmosque.com, refer to non-Muslim Westerners as “wicked,” “corrupt” and “our clear enemies.”
Sometimes Jews are singled out.
“Is it permissible for women to wear high-heeled shoes?” begins one posting in question-and-answer format. “That is not permissible,” comes the reply. “It involves resembling the Disbelieving Women or the wicked women. It has its origin among the Jewish women.”
Modern pastimes are condemned.
“What is the ruling on subscribing to sports channels?” another question begins. “Watching some of the female spectators, when the camera focuses on them time after time” stirs “evil inclinations,” the lesson reads. “Some (players) may not even believe in Allaah.”
Mosque leaders refused repeated requests for an interview.
A disclaimer on the website says questions and answers do not necessarily reflect the mosque’s views. But the About Us page says: “All questions and answers on this site (are) prepared, approved and supervised by (the mosque’s imam) Bashir Yusuf Shiil.”
And some people have the nerve to ask, why be an atheist?
This is clearly religious indocternation right under our noses here in Canada. I am miffed by the fact that why is it even allowed? Were this a Church web-site would the authorities have allowed the church to continue spewing hatred? Why is this mosque being given a pass? It will be interesting to see how the authorities handle this situation because it will be very telling on the status of political correctedness in Canada.
And here is the other side :
ABIDE BY OUR RULES OR LEAVE OUR COUNTRY
I’m sick and tired of immigrants coming to our country to then make demands upon us and dictate how we should regulate matters. Safety must come first and UPS is absolutely right to insist that long skirts not be worn in the warehouses due to the safety implications. The audacity to think that they have a right to tell us how we should “run our show”. I say clearly and loudly, out with the entire lot of them. Either come to our country and accept our culture, rules and regulations or go back to where you came from where “the long skirt rules”. Too many Canadians are too “politically correct” and afraid to speak out for fear of being labelled a racist. In the meantime, these immigrants have no reservations about speaking out against our culture. Who truly is the racist in this scenario ? No more polite cow-towing to their endless demands. Abide by “our” rules or leave.
What I find amusing is how the anti-immigrant squad comes out fighting each time such an issue is in the news. “If you don’t like our rules, leave”.
I’d like to ask Marilyn, is that what your ancestors were told by the natives when they arrived in Canada? It is so easy for you to dictate terms to us immigrants when you are kind of foggy about your status in this country. YOU ARE ALSO AN IMMIGRANT. You are what we would call a 2nd or 3rd generation immigrant. Even if your ancestors arrived in Canada 400 years ago, you still have your roots in some European country. So please stop with this “immigrants are evil” bullshit.
And I am sick and tired of hearing “our culture, our values”. What exactly are they? I would love for someone to identify “Canadian culture” for me.
I strongly oppose any form of religious indoctrination (am an atheist) in Canada and this mosque should be investigated and if necessary, closed. But to start blanketing every immigrant as “they have come to destroy us” is sheer paranoia.
